One more post about the water crisis

Maybe this will be the last one. I hope.

Got another email from Mayor Ambrosino, letting me know that the Fire Chief Doherty, not he was responsible for the cities response to the water crisis. Way to pass the buck dude.

He also blamed our antiquated reverse 911 system purchased in 2000 which is run by Verizon and only calls people who have Verizon as their phone carrier. So some one like me, who has Xfinity would not be called. Apparently this service is free, while obtaining a service that calls every person regardless of their service carrier would cost 30,000 a year.

A service that he said the city can't afford.

So I will be contacting the Fire Chief tomorrow and asking him if he could use any assistance from me. Share with him some ideas I have about improving our Emergency Response.

The mayor responded

Our mayor is back from his vacation, and he responded to my email.

I will not reprint here, but I am not happy with his response. He did try to answer some of my questions, but I am not all that happy with his answers. One of his reasons for not using reverse 911 is he claims the cities reverse 911 system takes four days to contact every one.

-- So question one for you my dear readers. Does your city have reverse 911, and how long after the emergency did you know about it?

He also said he trusted social networking sites and the media (local news programs and news papers) would do a better job of alerting the citizens than sending police cruisers and other emergency vehicles out to announce the water emergency would. He sure does believe in Facebook and Twitter more than I do.

If he does think so highly of the internet, then why was there no mention of the water emergency of the main page for the city? Not on the page for the police, or health department, or city hall. They did have a reminder that people needed to get the dog licensed by Monday. In big red letters. But nothing about the water emergency.

So question two dear readers, what web sites did you check for further information about the boil water order, or for locations where water was being distributed?

Revere puts out a drip for citizens

Sorry I have been little miss post a lot today, but I don't have much else to do with my anger but blog about it. Brought my camera with me to the water drip off. There was not enough water there to cal it a drop off. But the camera has this issue with batteries. It has a rechargeable battery and when the camera just sits the battery drains. More often than not, this NEW camera is unusable. I'm still pissed off that my cannon camera broke. I would have loved to take some pictures.

There was a photographer there from the Boston Globe, I hope this means some one is covering this story besides ME!

So let me tell you in words what I can't show you in pictures. At the entrance to the Show case Cinema was was on of those light up road signs. There in big letters was the word WATA. So guys I know that is the proper phonetic spelling of the word, but some something important like this don't drop that 'R'. As I pulled around to the back of the building I was asked by an officer to produce id that proved I was a resident of revere. The head of the Board of Health was there. At least I think that is who it was, I got out of the truck and tried to talk to him, but he turned his back on me. I had to open the back of the truck any way so the public works guys could put the case of water in the back.

I took a very quick count and I think at best there were 12 pallets of Poland Springs water. Each person in line was allowed one case of water. One case of water is six three liter bottles. I know that is enough water for myself and the pets to last a week. Not so sure it would be more than a drip in the bucket.

DRY Black eye for Revere

If you wish to find out if the city of Revere is providing water for it's residences. Don't look at the cities web site. Don't check with the police. Don't call city hall. Your best, honestly your ONLY choice is to go down to city hall and stand in front of the Mayors Office. Well dear readers, friends, fellow thirsty residences. I had to go down to city hall anyway, so once I got Byron's dog license, I went and stood by the mayors office. Behind closed doors the brain trust that runs this city, minus the Mayor because he is on vacation (again)!

Finally an older woman who refused to give me her name came out and spoke to the city hall receptionist. She said, "You can tell people who call that we will be handing out a small amount of water at Showcase Cinema's on Route 60, starting at 2pm." She turned to go back into the office and I asked her if they would be delivering water to the elderly or disabled residences of Revere as other cities and towns in the effected area have been. She was very rude, saying "Your lucky we're doing this!

I turned to the receptionist and asked when the Mayor was returning to the city. She said he should be back on Thursday. I wonder if I should attempt to see him, or just realize that is the way this city does not work.

Must not loose temper today

After not having any thing going on at City Hall all weekend, Revere might be setting up a station to give away bottled water. Not several stations, one station. So far they can't tell me where the water station will be, how much water they will have to pass out. Well I said, I live in a RHA building, are steps being taken to help the house bound elderly and disabled people in our building? She could not tell me.

This is leading me to wonder if they are doing anything at all. Since it appears the pipes has been fixed, and the system is being flushed. We must might be on the last day of boiling our water. Help was needed on Saturday and Sunday, not today! I hope someone in the press steps forward to investigate what happened. I might have to be that person myself.

So today's horoscope, means some thing important.

Monday, May 3rd, 2010 -- Your words carry more weight today than you realize, so use them with care. Even if your intentions are honorable, you may be withholding anger that can leak out of your subconscious and into a conversation. Instead of being committed to speak the whole truth and nothing but the truth as you see it, try tempering your honesty with kindness. It will make everyone feel better in the long run.

As far as the cities web site is concerned, nothing happened this weekend.

Still waiting for the city of Revere to do anything

There is a notice on the elevator, printed by someone in the building warning people not to drink the water. The note is written in English only, so our non English speaking residents are screwed. I keep checking the city's web page, and mayors office to see if they have anything about the water crisis. Nothing, it's like it never happened.

I have called the Mayors office today, I know it's Sunday, but this is a crisis. I expect some one to be on the ball. I will be checking in with the Housing Authority in the morning to see if they have any plans to help their tenants.

I am just to incensed to write more today. I am both angry and disappointed in my city.
